This post presents alternative versions of “Hanerot Halalu,” as well as the blessings recited upon lighting the menorah. As explained in more detail below, several alterations were made to “Hanerot Halalu” in order to emphasize messages of peace and gender equality. The document offers the Hebrew, English and transliterated texts of the song and blessings, including both traditional male God-language and feminine God-language, reflecting a blend of Jewish tradition with modern feminist approaches. This resource was created by Kolot: Center for Jewish Women’s & Gender Studies and shared on Ritualwell.org, a project of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College that provides a platform for creating new Jewish practices and observances.
