This post features a picture of a one shekel note from 1980-1985, when the Old Israeli Shekel was the currency of the State of Israel. The Old Israeli Shekel banknotes commemorated the founding fathers of Israel and the different gates of the Old City of Jerusalem. The one shekel note featured Sir Moses Montefiore with the iconic windmill he constructed in Misheknot Sha’ananim on one side, and Jaffa Gate, the main entrance to the Old City, and David’s Citadel on the other.
