Meheira: A Chuppah Song

This moving video features Daniel Ben Haim singing Yaakov Shweky’s tune for “Meheira”, a classic Hebrew wedding song often sung during the wedding procession, as seen in this video. The Hebrew, English and transliterated lyrics, shared below, are excerpts from the last of the Sheva Brachot, the seven blessings recited under the Chuppah.

Meheira

מהרה ה’ אלוקינו
ישמע בערי יהודה
ובחוצות ירושלים
קול ששון וקול שמחה
קול חתן וקול כלה
קול מצהלות חתנים מחפתם
ונערים ממשתה נגינתם

May there soon be heard, Lord our G-d, in the cities of Judea and in the streets of Jerusalem, the sound of joy and the sound of celebration, the voice of a bridegroom and the voice of a bride, the happy shouting of bridegrooms from their weddings and of young men from their feasts of song.

Meheira Hashem Elokeinu
Yishama Be-orei Yehuda
U’vechutzos Yerushalayim
Kol Sason Vekol Simcha
Kol Chassan Vekol Kallah
Kol Mitzalos Chassanim Mechipasam
Une-arim Mimishtei Neginasam
